Ready for some Shakespeare?

When people think of William Shakespeare, they rarely associate it with fun. Although the playwright has written several comedies, several of them quite famous, he ends up being better known for his tragedies, such as Macbeth, Hamlet or Romeo and Juliet, and for his historical plays like Henry VIII, Richard III or King John. And the royal theater companies in London don’t really help out a lot, since they tend to overplay the least fun plays and leave excellent comedies in the shadow. Which is a shame, since some of his comedy work, like As You Like It, The Merchant of Venice or Much Ado About Nothing are really top quality.

Luckily, London doesn’t hold the monopoly of Shakespeare plays. In Warwickshire, Shakespeare’s native county, there are always several plays being played, and a lot more comedies. I’d even dare say that, outside of the renewed Globe Theatre, you’ll have a Shakespearian experience much closer to the original outside of London, and mainly in Warwickshire. And there are a lot of reasons why you should visit the county. Luxury hotels Warwickshire have really stepped up and now provide excellent facilities for a fraction of the price you’d pay in the greater cities, making experiencing the county in comfort a much easier task.
