The executive room

People say that more business is conducted outside of meeting rooms and official offices or buildings. That means most business transactions are made in places where you would otherwise be relaxing, be it a restaurant, a bar or a café, at the infamous golf course or at the back of a limo.

In fact, a surprising number of business deals are done, although not necessarily sealed, in a car. Of course this tally counts business transactions concluded on the phone while in a car, but it’s still a pretty large number.

Any executive car hire company will tell you that your car will shape people’s opinion of you, and that is probably true. Not that people will discriminate against someone in a BMW for not having a Mercedes or an Audi, but if you show up for a business lunch driving a banged up Volkswagen Polo you might get a couple of smiles, if you’re lucky.

Nobody expects you to show up in a Rolls Royce or the latest model of any impressive brand, but if you don’t even try and put on the effort, than you’re in trouble. At the very least, you should consider hiring a car for a couple of days, just to make you look good.
